PILIBHIT: A 60-year-old woman from Mishra Colony in Pilibhit’s Bhindara village has sought protection from UP CM Yogi Adityanath, alleging harassment and threats from former BJP district president Sanjiv Pratap Singh and his younger brother, Nishant Pratap Singh, who is chairperson of Bhindara Town Area Committee. In her complaint, Devi asked the CM to provide protection to her and her family and sought a high-level inquiry into what she described as Singh’s “immense wealth and properties acquired by illegal possession and unfair means”. Singh denied the allegations and said they were “part of a conspiracy to demolish” his and his family’s political and social image. In a letter uploaded on CM’s official portal on Saturday, Nand Rani Devi said the dispute arose from a land deal in Feb 2017, under which Singh purchased her 0.089-hectare land, around 900 square metres, for Rs 5.69 lakh. She alleged that she was given a cheque of Rs 5 lakh and the remaining amount in cash, but “I could never receive the cheque payment because there was never enough balance in the account”. She said Singh later took back the cheque, saying it had become time-barred and that “a fresh cheque would be issued”, but no new cheque was given.Devi said she then filed a civil suit in the court of civil judge, junior division, in Pilibhit for recovery of the amount, since the cheque details were recorded in the sale deed. She alleged that Singh submitted “a fraudulent payment receipt bearing my forged signatures” in court, which she challenged. The case is still under trial, she said. She added that she and her family were since implicated in false cases and harassed by police. “The police beat me and my husband many times without any fault,” she said. She also alleged that Singh was trying to take illegal possession of the land.
