A six-year-old Girl Scout from Pittsburgh made headlines after breaking records for selling the most cookies in a single season. Pim Neill, the young scout, has reportedly sold over 1,00,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies in just one season. The whopping number surprised people across the country, and they applauded her determination and hard work.
While she began with a small goal, Pim wanted to sell enough boxes to earn a chance to go to scout camp. However, her ambition quickly grew. First, she wanted to sell the most cookies among her group of 11 kindergarten students. Then she set higher targets for herself – 5,000 boxes, 10,000 boxes, and eventually even more. As of Monday, February 16, she had sold 1,00,000 boxes of cookies, and nothing would be possible without her family’s help.
Her Father Calls Her ‘Unstoppable’
Her father, Luke Anorak-Neill, spoke with People and opened up about his daughter, saying she had always been a go-getter. “Pim is literally unstoppable,” he said. Pim’s father revealed that his very young daughter achieved whatever she set her mind on. From her school’s popcorn sales to donating to a toy drive, she never shied away from any sort of challenge.
Luke also shared Pim’s progress on social media platforms, including Facebook. “Pim’s goal is 100,026 boxes so she can go to Girl Scout Camp this summer, go on adventures with her troop and bring some amazing service projects to her community. Pim is hoping to sell ‘more cookies than anyone’, and we are tackling her goal a few (thousand) at a time,” he wrote on Facebook.
He also shared that they went door-to-door in their neighbourhood and that Pim personally spoke with people at church and at community events, asking them to support her cookie drive. The family even asked their relatives to buy cookies instead of giving her any Christmas gifts.
Pim’s Journey Wasn’t Easy
Pim, who is currently a Daisy scout, the youngest of all, began selling cookies in early January, and within just a few days, she had already sold hundreds of boxes. The Girl Scouts’ cookie season usually runs from January to April. The six-year-old used every opportunity she could, selling cookies after school, on weekends, and whenever the weather allowed.
The journey to achieving such a feat was anything but easy. Her father shared that Pim faced challenges when trying to join a Girl Scout troop due to her late birthday and her disabilities. He said that the family has had painful experiences in the past, including being turned away.
“At one cookie booth, when we asked the adult ladies running the booth [about joining], before we knew anything about Girl Scouts, the one lady literally screamed at us (in front of all the girls) that my child’s disabilities would hold a troop back and that she didn’t want Pim in her troop,” he told the outlet.
Despite the setbacks, Pim did not give up and finally joined a troop of all kindergarteners. Even her father joined in as a troop leader to help her.
