Kanpur: Auraiya police arrested six persons allegedly involved in recent theft cases during an encounter operation early Wednesday.According to police, two of the accused sustained bullet injuries during the operation and were admitted to the Community Health Centre, Bidhuna, for treatment.Police said an informer tipped them off that a few persons involved in recent theft incidents in the district had gathered near the Dahriyapur turn to distribute stolen goods and cash among themselves.Acting on the information, a police team reached the spot and conducted a raid to apprehend the suspects.The accused allegedly opened fire on police personnel in an attempt to escape. Police retaliated, injuring two of the accused in the leg.The injured were identified as Momin, a resident of Islam Nagar in Kannauj’s Saurikh area, and Vikas alias Gaurav, a resident of Haripur in Mainpuri’s Kishni area.Police said Momin has around 17 theft and robbery cases registered against him at various police stations, while Vikas has around seven criminal cases registered against him.Four other accused who attempted to flee were also arrested from the spot, police said.Police recovered cash, stolen gold and silver jewellery, two four-wheelers, a Bullet motorcycle, two illegal .315-bore pistols, and several live and spent cartridges.A case has been registered under relevant sections, and further legal action is being taken, police said.
