Dumka: A total of six drug peddlers, including two from Bihar, were arrested and 28 kg of marijuana seized in raids conducted across Deoghar and Sahibganj districts in Santhal Pargana, police said on Saturday.In Deoghar, six drug traffickers were arrested with 20.7 kg marijuana, valued around Rs 4 lakh, by district police in raids near Chatterjee Bagan behind the Jasidih railway station and Naiyadih ground under the Kunda police station limits.“The arrested were identified as Ramdev Mahta, Dinesh Shah, Parshuram Mandal, and Yogendra Mandal, from Deoghar district besides kingpin Vikas Kumar Mandal, a former railway attendant, and Rajesh Yadav from Jamui district in Bihar. Mandal sources the stocks from Tripura. An amount of Rs 28,500, mobile phones, identity documents, and a bike were seized from their possession,” Deoghar SP Praveen Pushkar said.“A case has been registered against all six under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Preliminary investigation revealed that some of the accused have criminal records. Further investigation is under way,” SP Pushkar added.In Sahibganj district, officer in-charge (OC) of the Sahibganj town police station Sunil Kumar launched a vehicle checking drive near Rajbada 44 RD Canal on Friday and intercepted a motorcycle. “A search of the two-wheeler revealed 7.6 kg of cannabis, estimated to be worth around Rs 1.5 lakh, being transported in a polythene bag. The biker managed to flee, leaving behind the motorcycle. An FIR has been lodged under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Raids are under way to identify the biker and others involved in the racket,” OC Kumar said.
