Nagpur: As many as 56 cases involving 105 crore were settled during the National Lok Adalat held at the Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Saturday. The Lok Adalat was organised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) in collaboration with the High Court Legal Services Sub-Committee, Nagpur.A total of 240 matters were listed for hearing, including Motor Accident Claim petitions, land acquisition appeals, arbitration appeals, and family disputes. Out of these, 56 cases were amicably settled, and compensation worth 5.8 crore was awarded to claimants in disputes related to national highway projects.Among the notable matters resolved was a motor accident compensation appeal pending since 1989. The case originated from a road accident involving a 10-year-old boy. The parents approached the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, which awarded compensation of 30,000. The claimants later filed an appeal before the HC seeking enhancement of compensation. The matter was eventually referred to the Lok Adalat. The insurance company agreed to pay 3 lakh.Nagpur bench administrative judge Anil Kilor, appealed to litigants to take advantage of the initiative.
