Ghaziabad: Six wagons of a coal-laden goods train derailed in Sahibabad at 2.36 am on Tuesday, disrupting rail traffic on the Ghaziabad-New Delhi section and affecting 53 trains. No casualties or injuries were reported, Northern Railway officials said.The derailment led to coal spilling onto the tracks and severely disrupted train movement between Ghaziabad and Delhi. Twenty-four long-distance trains were diverted via the Delhi-New Delhi route, including the Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express, Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Jan Shatabdi Express and Kanpur-New Delhi Shatabdi Express, among others.Sixteen passenger trains were cancelled, five passenger services were partially cancelled and eight trains bound for Anand Vihar via the Moradabad Division and North Central Railway were regulated.Senior railway officials, including the divisional railway manager (DRM) and additional divisional railway manager (ADRM), reached the site to oversee restoration work. Technical and relief teams were deployed to clear the derailed wagons and restore train movement.The Ghaziabad-New Delhi section is one of the busiest rail corridors in the Northern Railway network and serves as a key route for trains entering Delhi from eastern and northern India.Railway authorities advised passengers to check the latest status of their trains before starting their journey. Restoration work was underway, and efforts were being made to resume normal services at the earliest.The Railways has ordered an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the derailment.
