Noida: A 28-year-old truck driver died after his steel-laden truck veered off the road and plunged into a drain in Greater Noida’s Badalpur on Tuesday morning. Investigation suggests the driver may have dozed off behind the wheel.Police said that Aamir, resident of Chandpur in Bulandshahr, was transporting steel rods from Dadri to Ghaziabad. Around 5.30am , he suddenly lost control of the vehicle, ramming into an electricity pole on the side of the road before crashing into a drain.The impact of the collision was severe, with the steel rods crushing the truck’s cabin and trapping the driver in the wreckage. Police received information about the crash around 6am and launched a rescue operation.A crane was deployed to lift parts of the vehicle, while a gas cutter was used to cut through the twisted metal. After nearly two hours, rescue personnel managed to pull the driver out of the wreckage. Videos of the operation were also circulated on social media platforms.

The driver was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination after completing the necessary legal formalities. His family has also been informed, police added.Investigation suggests that the driver may have dozed off behind the wheel due to fatigue and driving in the early hours of the morning. All possible angles are being examined, they said.The accident briefly affected traffic in the area, but police eventually cleared the site and restored normal traffic flow.
