T’puram: A 52-year-old construction worker was killed while two other workers sustained severe burns after they were struck by lightning at Kunnathukal Chavadi near Neyyattinkara on Thursday afternoon.The deceased was Vincent, while those injured were Dasayyan, 50, and Ajeesh, 45, all natives of Neyyattinkara.According to residents, the incident took place around 2pm when the three men were working at a construction site at Kunnathukal.The three were immediately rushed to Karakonam medical college hospital by residents. Vincent, who had suffered serious injuries in the lightning strike, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.Dasayyan and Ajeesh sustained severe burns on their bodies and were admitted to the hospital for treatment. Hospital officials said Ajeesh’s condition was stable, while Dasayyan’s condition was also improving. Both are continuing treatment at the ICU ward of the hospital.The incident occurred when thunderstorms were reported in the area. The workers were carrying out construction activities on the upper floor of the house when the lightning struck them.Vincent‘s body was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram govt medical college hospital for postmortem. The body will be handed over to his relatives after the completion of the procedures.Neyyattinkara Police have registered a case under the provisions relating to unnatural death and launched an investigation into the incident. Police are collecting details from residents and others who were present at the site.
