Nagpur: Officers of the Crime Branch Anti-Narcotics Squad arrested two persons and seized 52 grams of MD powder worth Rs6 lakh during patrolling within the limits of Lakadganj police station on Sunday morning.Between 7 am and 9.30 am on Sunday, the squad spotted two men on a moped acting suspiciously in front of a gymnasium at Ghasbazar in Loha Market area. The duo was detained.They identified themselves as Sheikh Ijaz Sheikh Mehmud (35) and Jeevan Barapatre (37), of Wadeche Ghari Kyarane in Zenda Chowk in Prem Nagar.A search of the accused and the moped led to the recovery of 52 grams of MD powder packed in a ziplock bag.Three mobile phones and the scooter were also seized.During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had procured the contraband with the help of two accomplices — Darshan Charade and Kunal Gabhane — for sale.A case under sections 8(a), 22(a) and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Lakadganj police station. Both accused have been arrested and handed over to Lakadganj police along with the seized material for further investigation. Efforts to trace the remaining accused are under way.
