Ahmedabad: The fourth round of admissions under the 25% Right to Education (RTE) quota in private schools saw only 978 students securing seats, out of the 6,075 available seats.According to official data, 1,00,332 applications were found eligible for admissions under RTE this year.Following the allotment process in the fourth round, 5,097 seats remained vacant, underlining the continuing mismatch between available seats and the preferences of applicants. The medium-wise distribution revealed varying levels of occupancy. In Gujarati-medium schools, 959 seats were allotted, while 486 seats remained vacant. English-medium schools recorded 489 admissions against 3,375 available seats. Hindi-medium schools also witnessed low occupancy, with 1,576 of the 2,886 available seats remaining vacant. Other mediums reported minimal admissions as well.Officials attributed the low number of allotments to factors such as school preference, geographical location and choice of academic streams or branches. Many applicants either did not opt for the seats available to them or chose to retain seats allotted in earlier rounds instead of shifting to new options.Education department officials said the admission committee was expected to announce subsequent rounds or issue guidelines for filling the remaining vacancies.
