Gandhinagar: The state govt on Tuesday inducted 500 new technology-enabled ‘112 Janrakshak‘ vehicles into its emergency response network, doubling the fleet strength to 1,000 vehicles operating round the clock across Gujarat.Minister of state for home Harsh Sanghavi flagged off the new vehicles from the secretariat complex in Gandhinagar. According to an official statement, the expansion is aimed at further cutting police response times, with govt setting a target of reducing the average response time to below eight minutes.Officials said the average police response time has already fallen to 10 minutes and 49 seconds following the introduction of a 150-seat emergency call centre, a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and caller-location technology. The addition of more vehicles and increased use of technology is expected to improve response times further.The 112 emergency service has also been integrated with mobility platforms such as Ola, Uber, Rapido and Bharat Taxi, enabling users to access a 112 panic button through these applications. The platform brings together multiple emergency services, including police, ambulance, fire, women’s helpline, child helpline, disaster management, and traffic-related emergency assistance.According to govt, the Janrakshak project has handled more than 11 lakh emergency calls and provided immediate assistance in over 6.7 lakh police emergency cases within 11 months of its launch.
