Varanasi: A five-year-old boy was critically injured after packets suspected to contain explosive material suddenly exploded inside a general store in Kapsethi market under Kapsethi police station in Sewapuri on Saturday morning.The injured child was identified as Kartik Jaiswal. According to reports, the incident took place around 9am, when Kartik entered the general store. Moments later, packets kept inside the shop allegedly exploded, causing serious injuries to the child and triggering panic in the busy market.The loud blast drew a large crowd to the spot. Family members and local residents rushed the injured boy to a clinic at Kapsethi Chauraha, where he received primary treatment. Considering his serious condition, doctors referred him to a private hospital for advanced treatment. The explosion also damaged parts of the shop premises, including windows, doors and a brick railing.Police from Kapsethi police station reached the spot soon after receiving information and began an investigation. Officials are examining whether explosive material or firecrackers had been stored inside the shop and whether the shop owner had the required permission or licence to keep such material.Kapsethi police station in-charge Vikas Maurya said the matter was under investigation and further action would be taken based on the findings.
