The family, originally from Bihar, had moved to Gurgaon 10 years ago.“I was at work, my sons were playing outside, and Karishma and her mother were inside. My wife was busy with household chores when a snake entered the hutment. She suddenly heard Karishma screaming. When she rushed to her, she saw the snake leaving the hutment. It had bitten Karishma on her left foot,” Kundan said.Following the incident, neighbours rushed the girl to a nearby private hospital, where doctors referred her to another facility. She was subsequently taken to a third private hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The doctors informed the police that the body was sent to the mortuary late on Sunday evening for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death. While the family attributed the death to the snake bite, an officer from Kherki Daula police station said the exact cause of death would be established after the postmortem. The body was handed over to the family after the autopsy. “The family is in shock, and her mother is inconsolable and is blaming herself for not being able to save the child from the snake,” Kundan said.
