NEW DELHI: Police apprehended five juveniles who stabbed a 30-year-old to death and injured his female friend after he intervened to stop them from harassing her at a DDA park in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar.The boys, the youngest just 13, recorded a video as they made lewd remarks and then filmed themselves repeatedly stabbing the pair.The deceased, Sunil, a resident of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district who worked in iron fabrication, was attacked inside Baba Khimman Singh Park Wednesday afternoon after he intervened when the boys began harassing his friend, Devki (26), a caretaker from Jahangirpuri.Devki was also repeatedly stabbed.Investigators have recovered two button-operated knives used in the attack. They have also seized the mobile phone containing the video of the attack.

“During investigation, police team found that the group had been passing obscene remarks at the woman, while one minor boy recorded the same on his phone. Sunil confronted them and asked them to stop, the boys then turned extremely violent and repeatedly stabbed both him and Devki before fleeing, which was also recorded by the boys,” a senior police officer said.DCP (northwest) Akanksha Yadav said, “Seeing the brutality of the crime, we will be moving an application soon for the juveniles to be tried as adults.”Police said only 3 security guards are stationed at the Baba Khimman Singh Park that as per Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) official website spans 20 acres.“The guards rushed to the spot after hearing screams, but by the time they arrived, the boys had already fled. They found the man and woman lying injured and immediately informed the police,” the officer said.“The timely vigilance and swift response of the deployed security personnel helped prevent any further escalation of the incident and ensured the safety and security of other visitors present in the park,” a senior official from DDA said in response to TOIs query.Sunil succumbed to multiple stab injuries during treatment at a hospital. Devki, who also suffered multiple stab wounds, remains under treatment.Police said her condition is now stable.Devki, who works as a domestic caretaker, has been living separately from her husband for the past seven months and has been single-handedly raising her five-year-old son. Sunil, who is engaged in ironwork in UP, had come to visit her for a few days.
