NAGPUR: At least five people were killed and one person sustained serious injuries in a road accident on the Samruddhi Expressway near the Virul Interchange in Maharashtra’s Wardha district on Monday, police said.According to Wardha Police, the accident took place under the jurisdiction of the Pulgaon Police Station when an Eicher truck allegedly rammed into a car from behind.Four occupants of the car, including its driver, died on the spot. The truck’s cleaner sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.Police and highway authorities rushed to the spot soon after the accident and launched a rescue operation. Efforts were also made to clear the damaged vehicles and restore the flow of traffic on the expressway.The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Pulgaon Rural Hospital for post-mortem examination.Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.(With agency inputs)
