In a fiery address, Bihar’s opposition chief Tejashwi Yadav threw shade at the ruling NDA, accusing them of squandering state resources and destabilizing governance with their frequent leadership changes. With five different governments in just five years, he claimed the rightful mandate of the opposition was stolen through ‘nefarious schemes’ and dubious financing.

Patna: Leader of opposition in Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, on Friday alleged the ruling NDA has only indulged in the game of “govt formation”, saying the state saw govts being formed as many as five times in the past five years. This, he alleged, not only wasted 40% of the total working time of the state but also dealt a severe blow to govt stability.Tejashwi was referring to the series of oath-taking ceremonies held since Nov 2020. In Nov 2020, JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar, whose party won the elections in alliance with the BJP, took oath as CM for the seventh time. In Aug 2022, Nitish broke away from the NDA and formed a new govt with support from the Grand Alliance. Around 17 months later, in Jan 2024, Nitish returned to the NDA and formed another govt. He again took oath as CM in Nov 2025 after the NDA secured a historic mandate. Barely four months later, the state witnessed another political development when Nitish stepped down to make way for a BJP CM, drawing sharp reactions from the opposition.Speaking to the reporters in Patna, Tejashwi alleged the frequent formation of govts had dealt a blow to political stability and affected development work. “As many as five govts have taken oaths in the last five years. How will work be done when the govt is not stable?” Tejashwi asked while addressing a function organised at the RJD office to mark the Panchayati Raj Diwas on Friday. He said the opposition alliance received 1.90 crore votes in the 2025 assembly elections — 20 lakh more than in 2020 — but alleged the NDA grabbed power through conspiracy. “Machine and money power played a key role,” he said.Later, speaking to reporters, Tejashwi alleged Nitish was forced to make way for the BJP CM. “During his election campaigns, Nitish ji never said he would quit the throne after taking the oath. His son Nishant Kumar claimed his father was told by Amit Shah Uncle to continue in his post whenever he wanted, but he had to resign midway,” Tejashwi said, adding, “Nitish was forced to put in his paper.”The RJD’s national working president also took a dig at the BJP over its choice of CM. “He (Samrat Choudhary) is not an original RSS or BJP worker but has an RJD background. Similarly, both the deputy chief ministers — Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Choudhary — reached the NDA after travelling from Janata Dal and the Congress,” Tejashwi said. “No doubt Samrat is BJP CM but never was an RSS worker,” he said.Alleging bureaucracy reigns supreme under the present NDA regime, the RJD leader said elected representatives, whether MLAs or ministers, have failed to get due respect from bureaucrats. “The situation goes even worse when the people’s representatives come from the RJD,” he alleged, asking party workers to stay united and dislodge the NDA in the next elections.
