SONIPAT: A 30-year-old married woman, Priyanka, died under suspicious circumstances in Haryana’s Sonipat, barely four months after her marriage. According to her family, Priyanka was found hanging inside her room.Her brother has accused her husband and three other members of her matrimonial family of subjecting her to physical and mental harassment.Police have registered an FIR on the basis of the complaint and initiated an investigation. No arrest has been made in the case so far.According to the family, Priyanka did not come out of her room for a considerable period on Sunday. Her family members knocked on the door and repeatedly called out to her, but received no response.They then looked inside through the ventilator above the door and found Priyanka hanging from a noose.The room was locked from the inside. After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and broke open the door. The body was subsequently taken out of the room.Baroda police station Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar said that as soon as police received information about the incident, a team reached the spot and began taking action. A forensic team was also called to examine the scene.The forensic team collected samples and other evidence from the spot, which have been sent to a laboratory for examination. Police are awaiting the post-mortem and forensic examination reports.After the post-mortem examination, Priyanka’s body was handed over to her family, following which her last rites were performed.In his complaint to police, Priyanka’s brother Narender alleged that his sister had married Neeraj alias Shri Bhagwan, a resident of Butana village, on May 14. The marriage had taken place around four months before her death.Narender alleged that Priyanka had been harassed at her matrimonial home ever since the marriage. He further alleged that Neeraj was involved in a relationship with his sister-in-law and that Priyanka had objected to it.According to the complaint, Priyanka was allegedly subjected to physical assault and mental harassment after she opposed the relationship.Her brother alleged that an FIR had been registered against four people — her husband Neeraj, Neeraj’s sister-in-law, his maternal uncle and maternal aunt — over allegations of harassing Priyanka.These allegations are based on the complaint filed by the deceased woman’s brother and are yet to be independently established. Police are investigating the allegations and the circumstances surrounding her death.Butana police outpost in-charge ASI Kuldeep Singh said a case had been registered against Priyanka’s husband Neeraj, Neeraj’s sister-in-law, his maternal uncle and maternal aunt.He said none of the accused had been arrested so far. Police are awaiting the forensic and post-mortem reports, after which further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.Police said the investigation was underway and that appropriate legal action would be taken against anyone found responsible on the basis of the evidence and investigation findings.
