Garhwa: Garhwa district administration has formed a four-member probe team headed by Banshidhar Nagar SDM Prabhakar Mirdha to investigate complaints of illegal sand mining and storage at various sand ghats in Dhurki block, Garhwa DC Pashupati Nath Mishra said. The team has been directed to submit a detailed report within a week on the alleged activities. Complaints suggest illegal sand mining is taking place frequently at several ghats of Kanhar river, particularly Kadwa, Rampa ghat, Ambakhoriya, Balchaura, Libra ghat, Machpani ghat and ghats near Sukhaldari waterfall. It is alleged that loaders and JCB machines are being used during night hours for mining. There are also allegations that sand is being illegally stored on forest land, with the involvement of some local officials and forest department personnel. The activity is reportedly affecting wildlife habitats, increasing concerns among villagers over their safety and the protection of crops as animals lose their natural habitat.“The motive of the district administration is to stop illegal sand mining and its storage and saving the govt revenue, protection of environment and wildlife and protection of common people,” Mishra said.
