Dhubri: Police on Tuesday raided a hotel in Dhubri town and arrested four people for allegedly running an online gaming and illegal betting racket.The arrested persons were identified as Haran Ali, 20, son of Md Jakir Hussain of Kalapakani Part-II, Reserve Char under Dhubri police station; Abdul Matin, 20, son of Omed Ali of Balughat, Phoolbari Bridge under South Salmara police station; Hosen Ali, 20, son of Mohiruddin of Kalapakani Part-II under Dhubri police station; and Osman Gani, 22, son of Rohijuddin of Kalapakani Part-II under Dhubri police station.Police seized six mobile handsets from their possession. Police sources said a preliminary examination of the devices revealed records of suspected illegal financial transactions in US dollars and other foreign currencies, indicating possible links to an organised online betting network.The four accused have been taken into custody. Police said a detailed investigation is under way to ascertain the extent of the racket and trace others involved. Necessary legal action has been initiated against the accused, police added.Officer-in charge of Dhubri police station, sadar, Pritam Das told TOI that preliminary interrogation indicated the accused were running illegal gambling and betting as part of a larger network with possible international links.
