Guwahati: Assam Police arrested four suspected contract killers and seized arms and ammunition from their possession in Gossaigaon town of Kokrajhar district on Thursday night.Police said the operation was launched based on intelligence inputs about unidentified outsiders moving suspiciously at Ballamguri village near Gossaigaon. The accused were identified as Dharamveer Gautam, Bikash Choudhary, Suraj Gautam and Nizamis Ali, all from Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district.Police said the four allegedly entered Assam to commit dacoity. Villagers alerted police after spotting them moving around with weapons.“We received the information several days back that a few outsiders were in Assam to carry out some criminal activity. Even the public informed us. We immediately went and arrested them before they could commit a crime,” an officer from Gossaigaon police station said.Police recovered a country-made pistol and live cartridges from their possession.“These people are from UP’s Basti district. We are investigating how they arrived in the state and whether they are part of a larger nexus,” the officer added.
