Patna: Four police constables in East Champaran district were dismissed from service on Wednesday after a departmental inquiry found them guilty of removing and concealing Rs3 lakh from cash seized in Muzaffarpur during a police raid.The dismissed constables were identified as Santosh Kumar, Gautam Kumar Yadav, Krishna Kumar and Omprakash.The incident dates back to the night of Nov 21, 2025, when a police raiding team, formed to recover looted property and arrest accused persons, raided the house of named accused Chandan Singh under Sahebganj police station area in Muzaffarpur. During the search, the team recovered Rs4.15 lakh in cash, 10 biscuits and a chain appearing like gold.East Champaran SP Swarn Prabhat said the four constables, who were part of the raiding team, allegedly took advantage of the situation and removed money from the seized bag. During questioning, they reportedly admitted to hiding Rs3 lakh inside the police vehicle. The money was subsequently recovered and formally seized, he said.A case was registered at Sahebganj police station in Muzaffarpur on the application of Govindganj SHO Raj Kumar Mishra. The four constables were arrested and produced before a court.According to the SP, the constables were suspended following the incident and served show-cause notices. Their replies were found unsatisfactory, following which a departmental inquiry was ordered. Additional SP, Cyber Crime, East Champaran, Motihari, Pritish Kumar, was appointed inquiry officer, while SI Saurabh Kumar Azad was appointed presenting officer.The inquiry examined the available evidence and records and held all four constables responsible for dereliction of duty and arbitrary conduct.The departmental order said their actions amounted to corrupt conduct, damaged the image of the police department and violated govt service and police rules.
