Dimapur: Four persons died and as many reportedly fell ill after consuming suspected spurious liquor in Mangkolemba sub-division of Mokokchung district over the past few days, police said.In a release issued on Thursday, Mokokchung additional SP said police had received reports that the victims had consumed suspected adulterated rum. Mangkolemba police station has registered a case and six people have been arrested.Investigators are working to establish the circumstances leading to the deaths and illnesses, trace the source and supply chain of the suspected spurious liquor, and identify those involved in its manufacture, transportation, distribution or sale.Police warned that liquor from the suspected source may have been distributed to other parts of the state and could pose a serious risk to life and health.People who develop gastric pain, dizziness, blurred vision, breathing difficulties, severe headache or loss of consciousness after consuming liquor have been urged to seek immediate medical attention and inform the nearest police station or concerned authority.Police also appealed to the public to report the suspected sale or storage of spurious liquor, as well as information about its source and distribution.The incident comes days after nine people died at Tuensang Civil Hospital in the second week of Sept after consuming suspected spurious liquor.
