Chandigarh: Cyber fraudsters duped four city residents of nearly Rs 14 lakh in separate online scams using fake gas account update requests and a fraudulent e-challan payment link.Two senior citizens lost over Rs 9.8 lakh after callers posing as Adani Gas officials asked them to download APK files and make nominal verification payments. Another resident lost Rs 2.07 lakh after clicking on a fake traffic challan link, while a Sector 15-B resident was cheated of Rs 1.87 lakh through a bogus gas bill update request.In all cases, victims were tricked into downloading malicious applications that allegedly enabled unauthorised access to their bank accounts. Cyber police have registered four FIRs and launched investigations.Police have advised the public not to download APK files received through messages, click suspicious payment links or share banking credentials with unknown callers claiming to represent utility companies or government agencies.
