Nagpur: Traffic Police on Saturday destroyed 372 modified and unauthorised silencers seized from vehicles, crushing them under a road roller as part of an intensified crackdown on excessively loud exhaust systems. The action was aimed at preventing the seized silencers from being reused.According to traffic police, 342 cases involving modified or unauthorised silencers have been detected across the city’s traffic zones in 2026 till Sept 5 and subsequent action was taken. Officials said enforcement against such vehicles would be stepped up in the coming days.Under the Motor Vehicles Act, vehicles are required to comply with prescribed standards, including those relating to noise emissions. Unauthorised modifications that result in violations can attract penal action.Officials appealed to vehicle owners to avoid tampering with factory-fitted exhaust systems or installing aftermarket silencers that produce excessive noise.
