Nagpur: The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Friday took note of the poor condition of roads in Amravati’s Camp area, where the district and sessions court and several key govt offices are located. It directed the Amravati Municipal Corporation (AMC) to explain the poor condition of the roads.The issue came up before a division bench comprising Justices Urmila Joshi-Phalke and Raj Wakode during the hearing of a PIL filed by Janmanch president Rajiv Jagtap through counsel Parvez Mirza and Mrunall Chakravorty.The NGO drew the court’s attention to the deteriorated roads in the Camp area, submitting that several stretches were riddled with large potholes and that in some places it was difficult even to identify the road. Newspaper reports and photographs depicting the condition were also placed before the court. Subsequently, the bench made an oral observation: “Injustice outside the temple of justice.”While adjourning the hearing till Sept 7, the court ordered the AMC to be added as a respondent and issued notice seeking an explanation on the condition of the roads.Mirza submitted that the Camp area houses several important establishments, including the superintendent of police’s office, police commissionerate, district and sessions court, Zilla Parishad and divisional commissionerate. The area also has a substantial residential population.The petitioner said the poor roads were causing considerable inconvenience to residents and raising safety concerns, particularly for children, women and senior citizens. It also claimed that residents had repeatedly complained about the roads but that no concrete remedial measures had been taken.Janmanch further pointed out that some residential pockets in the Camp area had been waiting for proper asphalt or cement roads for several years. The deteriorating condition, it said, had increased the risk of accidents and made daily commuting difficult for residents.
