Vadodara: Stepping up vigil ahead of the civic elections, city police have detained more than 3,650 persons under various laws, including the Prohibition Act, Gujarat Police Act and the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA), over the past three weeks.“We want to ensure that those with criminal backgrounds do not create disturbances during campaigning and voting,” a police official said.Among those detained, 841 were booked for wrongful restraint, 913 for assault, and 1,076 for use of criminal force, while 29 were held under PASA.Police have intensified checking at all 11 check-posts across the city, intercepting suspicious vehicles. Around 15,000 vehicles have been checked so far, with 93 cases registered for drunk driving.Crackdown on liquor smuggling has also been stepped up, with police seizing over 7,492 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth more than Rs 37 lakh and registering 908 cases under the Prohibition Act.Additionally, police have taken custody of 1,842 weapons from civilians, with exemptions granted only to bank security personnel and sport shooters. Night patrolling has been intensified, and sensitive areas are being closely monitored through CCTV surveillance.
