Gurgaon: The proposed Global City in Sector 36A will have a dedicated metro station under a planned metro corridor. The 35-km metro corridor will connect Sector 56 on Golf Course Extension Road with Pachgaon on Delhi-Jaipur Highway.Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has finalised the detailed project report (DPR) of the corridor — estimated to cost Rs 10,428 crore — and forwarded it to the chief minister for approval. HMRTC appointed RITES as the consultant to prepare the DPR for the metro corridor initially planned from Vatika Chowk to Pachgaon. The corridor will have 28 stations and is expected to significantly improve connectivity across the city’s rapidly expanding residential, commercial and industrial sectors while integrating with existing and proposed regional transit networks. An HMRTC official told TOI, “A major feature of the project is the inclusion of a metro station inside the proposed Global City being developed over nearly 1,000 acres in Sector 36A. To facilitate connectivity to the integrated township, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) will contribute Rs 1,500 crore towards the metro project.”Envisioned as a self-sustaining “city within a city”, the Global City project — being developed by HSIIDC — is planned as a mixed-use development comprising residential, commercial and industrial zones. Officials believe the dedicated metro station will ensure seamless public transport access for future residents, businesses and workers, reducing dependence on private vehicles. After the draft DPR was prepared, the alignment was revised to extend the metro corridor to the Rapid Metro’s Sector 56 station on Golf Course Road, enabling direct integration with Gurgaon’s existing metro network. Once approved by the state govt, the DPR will pave the way for the project’s statutory clearances and subsequent construction, marking another major expansion of Gurgaon’s urban rail network. The corridor has also been designed as a multimodal transport link. It will connect with the Rapid Metro at Sector 56, the proposed Namo Bharat corridor between Gurgaon and Greater Noida via Faridabad and Noida near Sector 61, and the proposed Delhi-Bawal Namo Bharat corridor at Pachgaon, where an interchange station has been planned. The proposal gained momentum after a meeting held at the Ministry of Housing and UrbanAffairs on Oct 22, 2024, where it was decided that the Haryana govt would undertake the construction of the project. Subsequently, on Jan 16, 2025, RITES presented the project’s funding model. According to the proposal, 10% of the project cost will be funded by the central govt, while the remaining amount will be financed through a combination of 20% equity from the Haryana govt and 80% institutional borrowing from banks.Under this metro route, an interchange station will be constructed in Sector 56. This station will be built near the existing Sector 56 station of the Rapid Metro, which currently runs from Cyber City to Sector 56.Following this, a station will be constructed on Golf Course Road near the village Ghata traffic signal. Subsequently, metro stations will be developed in Sector 61, Sector 62, Nirvana Country and Sector 66.An interchange station will be built at Vatika Chowk, as there is a future plan to operate a metro from Bhondsi to Rajiv Chowk via Vatika Chowk. After Vatika Chowk, this metro will move onto the SPR (Southern Peripheral Road), under which stations will be built in Sectors 69, 70 and 75.Thereafter, a station will be constructed near the toll plaza in Kherki Daula village. An interchange station will be developed at Kherki Daula. The Namo Bharat train will run on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, and its station is also set to be built in Kherki Daula.Following this, stations for this metro will be built in Sector 36A, Global City, Sector 88, Sector 84, Sectors 85 and 89, Sectors 86 and 90, Sector 91, Kankrola village, Sector M-15, Sector M-14, M-9, M-8, Manesar (HORC), Sector P-4, P-5, P-7 and Pachgaon.
