Srinagar, Oct 24: As many as 303 persons with disabilities received artificial limbs and mobility aids during a two-day camp organised by the Army’s Chinar Corps in collaboration with Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), popularly known as Jaipur Foot, at Sharifabad on October 23 and 24.

The camp provided free prosthetic limbs and mobility assistance to people facing physical disabilities, with the aim of improving their movement, independence and ability to carry out everyday activities.

According to organisers, 190 beneficiaries were fitted with customised artificial limbs, while another 113 received mobility aids, including wheelchairs, crutches and callipers.

A team of prosthetic technicians and medical specialists from BMVSS examined beneficiaries individually before providing artificial limbs suited to their physical requirements.

The camp brought specialised prosthetic services closer to beneficiaries, allowing them to receive assessment and assistance without having to travel to distant medical facilities.

Local residents and beneficiaries appreciated the initiative, saying access to artificial limbs and mobility aids could help persons with disabilities regain independence and participate more actively in daily life.

The organisers said the programme was part of efforts to extend rehabilitation support to vulnerable sections of society through cooperation between the Army and civil society organisations.

The initiative also highlighted the importance of accessible rehabilitation services and sustained assistance for persons with disabilities across the Kashmir Valley.
