Ahmedabad: A 30-year-old woman from Bareja died after consuming poison on Wednesday. She was allegedly distressed over a dispute around a gold chain, and was being harassed by several persons.Aslali police lodged a complaint by her brother. According to the FIR, the deceased had lent the piece of jewellery, given to her by her sister to wear at an event, to a man she was acquainted with. The man and his associate allegedly pawned the chain and did not return it despite repeated demands.The brother alleged that the victim was being mentally harassed by her own sister, husband and in-laws to either return the chain or replace it with a new one. Caught between her family’s demand and the acquaintance’s alleged refusal to return the chain, the woman consumed poison. She was rushed to a hospital where she died during treatment. The complaint names the man who allegedly took the chain, his associate, the woman’s husband and her in-laws. tnn
