George Mendonca Navi Mumbai: Four pedestrians walking on the pavement, including a 3-year-old girl were injured after a car driven by a doctor lost control over the wheels and veering off the road climbed on the pavement and hit the pedestrians before crashing into a scooter parked on the roadside in Kalamboli on Monday around 7 pm.Rajendra Kote, senior inspector of Kalamboli informed that, Dr Sanjay Baranwal, an orthopedic surgeon who practices at Satyam Multi-speciality hospital in Kalamboli was returning from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj civic hospital at Kalwa, Thane, after performing surgery on a patient. Around 7 pm, when he was driving his car towards Satyam Multi-speciality hospital in Kalamboli, he lost control over the wheels upon reaching sector -1 area of Kalamboli node. Veering off the road, he climbed on the pavement after hitting a parked scooter and hit four pedestrians on the pavement, who sustained injuries. Thoss injured were a couple and third minor daughter and a male hawker.Inspector Kote said, “Dr Barnwal claimed that he was drowsy after a long surgery of a patient a Kalwa hospital, he was heading to Satyam Multi-speciality hospital in Kalamboli for another orthopedic surgeon, when he felt drowsy and the mishap occurred. Dr Barnwal was apparently not under the influence of alcohol. However, his medical test was done at Panvel sub-district hospital to ascertain alcohol consumption, and his medical report is awaited. An FIR will be registered against the accused Dr Barnwal under BNS sections and Motor Vehicle Act for rash and negligent driving causing injuries to four persons.”
