Pune: A three-year-old son of a farmworker drowned after allegedly falling into a farm pond at Inamgaon village in Shirur taluka, around 70km from Pune, on Tuesday evening.The incident occurred around 4pm while the boy’s parents were working on the farm. The Shirur police registered a case of accidental death.The deceased was identified as Sarthak Amale (3). His family, originally from Kinwat in Nanded district, is currently residing in Shirur.An officer from the Shirur police said Sarthak’s parents and other labourers were working on the farm while the child was watching videos on his father’s cellphone.“Around 4pm, when Sarthak’s parents no longer heard the audio from the cellphone, they went to check on him to see why the sound had stopped,” the officer said.When they could not find the boy anywhere on the farm, they alerted the farmer. Suspecting that the child had fallen into the farm pond, the farmer called local swimmers, who searched the pond and found him.“Sarthak was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” the officer said.
