Amritsar: Paramjit Kaur Khalra, wife of slain human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, has questioned the AAP govt over the whereabouts of a DSP and two sub-inspectors, convicted in her husband’s abduction and murder.“More than three weeks after it was brought to the attention of chief minister Bhagwant Mann that convicted former Punjab police officials Jaspal Singh (DSP), Satnam Singh (SI) and Jasbir Singh (SI) have been untraceable since 2023, there has been no public update from the authorities,” Paramjit Kaur posted on X. In 2005, a CBI court sentenced Jaspal Singh to life imprisonment, a conviction later upheld by higher courts, including the Supreme Court. In 2023, he was granted interim bail while his mercy plea was under consideration. However, subsequent police verification reportedly revealed that he was no longer residing at his registered address. His current whereabouts remain unknown. Former sub-inspectors Satnam Singh and Jasbir Singh were also convicted in connection with the case. Paramjit said the responsibility for allowing convicted murderers to remain absconding rests with the chief minister and the Govt of India. “The people of Punjab and the families of the victims deserve answers,” she added. The circumstances around Khalra’s murder have returned to the spotlight following the recent release and subsequent removal of Satluj, a biopic on Khalra. Khalra, who documented the secret cremations of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab, disappeared in Sept 1995 and was killed in police custody.
