Bhubaneswar: The three new grid substations established at Balianta and Satya Nagar in the capital city and SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, at a cost of around Rs 600 crore will benefit 22 lakh consumers, said chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi while inaugurating the new grid substations and eight important transmission lines at Balianta here on Thursday.“With this, Bhubaneswar got connected with an alternative power source. In the coming days, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will be connected through multiple feeder lines. This will enable residents to receive continuous quality electricity service,” said Majhi.Although these projects were approved long ago, Majhi said, work could not begin due to court cases and various problems. After the new govt assumed responsibility, priority was given to these projects, all problems were resolved, and work began a year ago, he added.“Bhubaneswar’s electricity demand will double in future. What is currently 1,000 megawatts will reach 2,000 megawatts by 2030. To address this, state govt is committed to strengthening and modernising the electricity infrastructure, keeping in view the future development of Bhubaneswar,” said Majhi.He said these new GIS grid substations and associated transmission lines will ensure uninterrupted, high-quality and reliable electricity supply in the capital. He said as a result, the overall development of industry, business, IT and urban life will be accelerated.For the first time in the state, Majhi said a digital grid substation has been constructed. Similarly, there is a plan to develop a 765 kV transmission system for the capital. In the subsequent period, various grid substations of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will be supplied through multiple feeders. This will bring more stability in electricity supply and will be more capable of providing quality and uninterrupted electricity service, he added.OPTCL is the only power transmission organisation in the entire country that is managing 70 grid substations through remote operations.After reviewing the situation on Thursday, Majhi directed Tata Power to provide three more feeders to supply electricity to Bhingarpur, Uttampur, Gangeshwar, Pandara, Jagannath Nagar, Mangaraj, Palasuni and adjacent areas.Deputy chief minister and energy minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said the people will no longer face low voltage problems after establishment of three new grid substations. Among others, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, Jayadev MLA Nabakishore Mallick, OPTCL CMD Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma and others were present at the programme.
