Patna: Three men returning to Gaya from a ‘tilak’ ceremony at Akbarpur village in Nawada district died on Sunday morning after their speeding motorcycle lost control and rammed into an electric pole on the Manjhwe–Fatehpur road (NH-82) near Katghara village in the district. None of the victims was wearing a helmet.Police identified the deceased as Pratap Kumar alias Vikas Kumar (20), Indran Manjhi (20) and Sonu Kumar alias Bhola Chaudhary (42), all residents of Rivla village in Gaya district. They were riding on a single motorcycle and returning home after attending their friend’s sister’s ‘tilak’ ceremony.
Eyewitnesses said the motorcycle was at very high speed. Near the Katghara turn, it suddenly went out of control, crashed into an electric pole and landed in a field about 20ft away. Villagers rushed to the spot and informed the police. The bodies were later sent to Sadar hospital for post-mortem.Sitamarhi police station in-charge Harendra Yadav said the damaged motorcycle has been seized and the victims’ families informed. “Prima facie, over-speeding appears to be the cause of the accident,” he said.
