Varanasi: Foiling bid to enter dry state Bihar with a consignment of liquor, a joint team of STF and Bairiya police on Thursday arrested three smugglers in Ballia district and seized 471 boxes containing liquor and two SUVs.Ballia assistant superintendent of police (southern) Kripa Shankar said that to check the menace of liquor smugglers who intensify efforts to send liquor consignments to Bihar ahead of Holi, vigilance increased in district’s bordering area. Late Wednesday night, the STF team and Bairia police raided Bhawan Tola dam area and early Thursday morning caught two liquor-laden SUVs.Kameshwar, Pintu Prasad and Dhananjay Kumar alias Golu were arrested along with the consignment. Police said liquor bottles of different brands were packed in 471 boxes. Apart from liquor and SUVs, police also seized three mobile phones from them.During interrogation, the arrested men divulged that their gang procured liquor in bulk from licensed shops and smuggled it to Bihar, using boats to take the consignments across the Ganga.
