Six people were initially trapped, with rescue teams successfully pulling out a man and two girls alive

MANGALURU: Three persons, including two young girls, were killed after a landslip crushed a tiled-roof house at Nagori in Kankanady in the early hours of Wednesday.According to rescue officials, six people were trapped under the debris after the landslip. Rescue teams managed to pull out a man and two girls alive, while a woman and two girls succumbed to their injuries.The deceased are Anamika Chaurasiya, 8, Pari, 4 and Shanta, 46 years.The survivors rescued are Alka, 14, Anusha, 11, and Balakrishna, 48. The victims hail from Bihar and have been residing for the past 20 years behind the Kankanady Police StationPersonnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Fire and Emergency Services Department, and the police carried out the rescue operation.The incident occurred amid heavy rainfall in the region, which is suspected to have triggered the landslip. Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. visited the spot to oversee the rescue and relief operations.City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said the compound wall collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the Kankanady Police Station limits between 4. 45am and 5am.Four families were residing in rented houses located below the compound wall. The rear walls of all four houses collapsed in the incident. However, two of the families were directly affected.Following the tragdey, Health and family welfare minister UT Khader has cut short his visit to Delhi. Soon after learning about the incident, the Minister contacted the Deputy Commissioner and directed the district administration to take immediate relief measures.He also directed officials to ensure that the government bears the medical expenses of the injured and that compensation is disbursed to the families of the deceased on Wednesday itself. The Minister is expected to arrive in Mangaluru on Wednesday afternoon.
