Ambala: Three men were arrested after a 2-kg improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered from their possession in the Barara area of Ambala district late on Friday evening. The arrest was made by the Haryana Special Task Force (STF) unit in Ambala during a targeted operation based on specific intelligence inputs.The accused, aged between 20 and 25 years, were identified as Ali Akbar, a resident of Ajmer in Rajasthan; Anas, from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh; and Jangvir, a resident of Barara in Ambala district.Barara DSP Suresh Kumar said the accused were produced before the district court on Saturday, which granted seven-day police remand for further investigation. According to officials, the suspects were travelling on a two-wheeler when they were intercepted by the Ambala STF team on the Barara–Dosarka road. The operation was carried out after STF Ambala in-charge Parteek Kumar received a tip-off that three persons carrying explosives were moving towards Ambala on a motorcycle.Acting on the information, the STF team set up surveillance and intercepted the suspects. During the search, a bag was recovered from their possession, which contained an IED weighing around 2 kg.DSP STF Ambala Aman Kumar said the explosive device was safely disposed of by the authorities. He added that the exact nature and composition of the explosive material will be determined after scientific examination and forensic testing.Police also revealed that the motorcycle used by the accused belonged to Jangvir.Following their arrest, the STF Ambala unit handed over the accused to the Barara police station team for further legal proceedings and investigation.Investigators are expected to question them to determine the source of the explosive device, their possible handlers, and the intended target.
