Amritsar: The Amritsar Rural police on Saturday claimed to have busted an ISI-sponsored terror and cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of two persons and recovery of four sophisticated weapons, including an AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 36 live cartridges, from their possession.The arrested accused were identified as Gursevak Singh alias Suraj, a resident of New Abadi in Attari, Amritsar, and Amarjit Singh alias Rohit, a resident of Subhash Road in Chheharta, Amritsar. Gaurav Yadav, director general of police, said apart from recovering the AK-47 rifle, the police teams also recovered three 9MM Glock pistols from the possession of the arrested accused.The module was also involved in radicalisation and spreading anti-India and anti-police narratives, said the DGP.Yadav said further investigation was underway to establish forward and backward linkages in the case.Suhail Qasim Mir, senior superintendent of police, said acting on secret information, teams from police station Gharinda arrested two suspects from village Muhawa and recovered a weapon consignment comprising an AK-47 along with ammunition and three Glock pistols during the search. The SSP said the probe revealed that the consignment of weapons was sent by foreign handlers via the Pakistan route for carrying out terrorist activities in Punjab.A case, FIR No 80 dated March 12, 2026, was registered under Sections 25(1)(A), 25(6), 25(7), and 25(8) of the Arms Act and Sections 13, 16, and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against the arrested accused at police station Gharinda, said the police.
