Kolkata: Bidhannagar cyber crime police have arrested three people in connection with two separate investment fraud cases involving a total of nearly Rs 90 lakh, officials said on Saturday.Two of the accused were arrested in a case involving a Baguiati resident who was allegedly duped of Rs 58.5 lakh, while the third was held for allegedly cheating a Rajarhat resident of Rs 31.6 lakh. Police said investigations are underway to identify other members of the cyber fraud network.According to cops, the Baguiati victim was lured into an investment scam after being added to a WhatsApp group that promised unusually high returns. Believing the claims, he invested Rs 58.5 lakh but neither received the promised profits nor recovered his principal amount. A plaint was filed on May 7. Wasim Akram of New Town and Surajit Mandal of Magrahat were arrested in this case on Friday.The Rajarhat resident was also allegedly induced to join a WhatsApp investment group. He invested Rs 31.6 lakh after being promised substantial returns. When no money was returned, he filed a complaint with the cyber crime police on Feb 7.Based on the investigation, police arrested Asim Chhetri, a resident of Nandakumar in East Midnapore, on Sunday. Police are probing whether the arrested men were part of a larger organised cyber fraud syndicate.
