Kanpur: Police arrested three faculty members of a private engineering college on Thursday in connection with alleged assault on students in Kanpur. The arrest was made a day after the students staged a protest on the college campus alleging that the faculty members beat students with sticks causing serious injuries. A case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a student in this connection. Police said that role of other accused is being investigated.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning at a private college on GT Road, where allegations were made that teachers beat students with sticks and belts for arriving late. Ten students were allegedly injured.After the incident, there was uproar, sloganeering and vandalism on the college campus. Police and PAC reached the spot after receiving information and brought the situation under control.DCP West SM Qasim Abdi said, “Police have arrested three faculty members on Thursday. A dispute occurred between students and faculty at the college, in which some faculty members assaulted students. After this, students staged a protest. On receiving information, police reached the spot and controlled the situation. A case was registered under relevant sections based on the complaint of the victim students. Three faculty members have been arrested in the matter and further legal proceedings are underway.”
