Anantnag, Aug 9: District Social Welfare Office, Anantnag, organised a three-day Awareness cum Education Kit Distribution Programme under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative among five educational institutions of zone Verinag, to promote girl education, empowerment, safety and equal opportunities.
The awareness programme was conducted at HS Halsdar, MS Dudwagan, MS Rein, MS Changoo and HS Batagund, where students and teachers were sensitised about the importance of educating the girl child, gender equality, child rights, prevention of child marriage, safety and protection of girls, and various government initiatives for their welfare and empowerment.
As part of the programme, 25 girl students were provided education kits, with five girls selected from each of the five participating schools. The distribution of education kits was aimed at encouraging girls to pursue their education and providing them with essential educational resources to support their learning.
The programme witnessed active participation of students, teachers and officials. The participants were encouraged to play an active role in creating a safe, supportive and enabling environment for the girl child and ensuring that every girl gets an opportunity to receive quality education.
Speaking on the occasion, the officials emphasised that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is not merely a government initiative but a collective social responsibility. They highlighted the importance of changing societal attitudes towards the girl child and ensuring equal opportunities for girls in education and other spheres of life.
The three-day programme concluded with an appeal to parents, teachers and community members to work collectively towards educating, empowering and protecting every girl child, thereby contributing to the creation of a more equitable and progressive society.
