Mangaluru: Sullia police intercepted a pickup vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday near Aletti Cross and rescued three cattle being transported without permits.According to the police, while on rounds duty near Aletti Cross in Sullia, SI Santosh BP and his team noticed a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle was intercepted near Mittadka Rotary School in Aletti village. During the interception, one person in the vehicle managed to escape. The driver, upon questioning, identified himself as Isaac KK, 40, a resident of Kannur, Kerala. Upon inspection of the vehicle, three cattle were found being transported inhumanely. Further inquiry revealed that the cattle belonged to Santosh MS, 48, of Amara Padanur village and were purchased through Ibrahim AM, 32, of Sullia. The cattle were being transported without the required permit and were allegedly intended for slaughter. A case has been registered at Sullia police station invoking sections 4, 5, 6, 7, and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, Section 11(1)(D) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and Section 303(2) of the BNS. Investigation is under way. All three accused have been taken into custody, and further legal action will be initiated, police said.
