Chandigarh: A spell of rain and thick cloud cover pulled the city’s maximum temperature down by seven degrees on Thursday—from 27.8°C on Wednesday to 20.8°C. Today’s reading is eight degrees below normal for this time of year. While such dips have occurred before, the drop remains notable. Last March, the lowest maximum recorded was 22°C; in 2024, a similar weather system pushed it down to 18°C.The minimum, too, stayed on the cooler side at 14.7°C, about a degree below normal. The combination of lower day and night temperatures brought a brief return of mid-March chill.Between 8.30am and 5.30pm, the city logged 3.4mm of rain. A cloudy sky with a thunderstorm is expected on Friday, followed by partly cloudy conditions for the next four days.Weather officials said the sharp fall was driven by persistent cloud cover, intermittent light rain and cool winds through the day, making conditions noticeably more pleasant than Wednesday.Cloudy skies and rain may continue into Friday, keeping temperatures suppressed. However, a gradual rise is likely from the weekend as the weather clears, with maximum temperatures expected to climb past 26°C in the coming days.Officials have urged residents to stay alert to changing conditions, noting that fluctuating temperatures during seasonal transitions can affect health.
