Ahmedabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport seized 299g of gold worth Rs 49.2 lakh in three cases on Wednesday. The passengers had arrived from Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Kuwait, officials said.A woman passenger who arrived from Abu Dhabi was intercepted and found to have concealed two gold chains weighing 100g. The 24-carat gold had a total market value of Rs 16.7 lakh. The gold was seized under provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, according to a department release.In another case, a couple coming from Sharjah was intercepted. They were found to have concealed four gold bangles and two gold chains weighing 140g. The gold had a total market value of Rs 32.4 lakh, officials said.In the third case, a woman passenger from Kuwait was found to have concealed one gold necklace, two earrings, one ring and one chain with pendant, weighing 59g of 22-carat gold. The total market value of the gold was Rs 9.1 lakh, according to the release.
