Panaji: The Command Area Development Board (CADB) has proposed notifying around 29.29 lakh sq m of land in four villages of Pernem and Bicholim talukas as a command area under the Tillari irrigation project to enhance its irrigation potential.The proposal seeks to include additional areas in Mayem (8,55,935 sq m), Paliem (2,29,658 sq m), Pernem (3,29,954 sq m) and Corgao (15,14,130 sq m). The board has invited suggestions and objections from the public within 30 days.

These villages continue to witness considerable agricultural activity and remain dependent on natural resources for irrigation. A water resources department official said that over the past two decades, more farmers have relied on Tillari irrigation water. The board also proposed dropping 3.65 sq m of land from the command area in Dhargal, Torsem, Calangute, Assagao, Anjuna, Parra, Revora, Latambarcem, Sarvan, Bicholim and Mayem. An official said the decision followed several requests from landowners.
