Mohali: A 28-year-old man from Azad Nagar in Balongi died under suspicious circumstances, with preliminary information pointing towards a possible drug overdose. The deceased has been identified as Manoj Kumar.According to initial reports, Manoj’s body was found lying unconscious in an empty field in TDI City near Balongi. Local residents who spotted him immediately informed his family. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.The family of the deceased has alleged that Manoj was frequently taken along by some youths for drug consumption. They suspect that he died due to a drug overdose and have demanded a thorough investigation along with strict action against those responsible.AAP youth leader Sarabjit Singh Rocky stated that the area where the body was found has become a hotspot for drug abuse, with youths often gathering there to consume and inject drugs. He said during a recent visit to the site, he and his associates found four youths in suspicious circumstances carrying syringes and allegedly consuming drugs. They were apprehended and handed over to the police.On Wednesday, Dr Sunny Singh Ahluwalia, general secretary of AAP Punjab and chairman of Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, visited the bereaved family. He assured them that those involved in drug trafficking would be arrested within 48 hours and strict action would be taken.Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of death.
