Daltonganj: Harihurganj police in Palamu district on Thursday began probe into the alleged theft of 275 domestic LPG cylinders from the godown of a distributor late on Wednesday. Dipak Kumar, the dealer, claimed that the cylinders went missing from his godown near NH-139. In his FIR, Kumar claimed that all the cylinders were filled. Police have registered the case under sections of theft of the BNS.Officer in-charge of Harihurganj police station, Deobrat Poddar said, “The theft of so many LPG cylinders in broad daylight and that too from near NH 139 where there is 24 x7 police patrol is also there, is hard to accept. Still, we have started the probe.”Poddar said preliminary probe revealed that the lock of the godown was neither broken nor had any sign of tampering. Also, there was no sign of any four wheeler pulling up the godown in and around to ferry them. “The godown did not have any CCTV either,” he said. The godown is closer to Bihar border. Police suspect that the filled cylinders could have been illegally sent to Bihar amid the ongoing crisis due to the conflict in West Asia. “We will soon crack the case,” he said.
