Lucknow: In a complex surgery, doctors at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (Civil) Hospital removed a 26-cm-long gallbladder weighing 450 grams from a 35-year-old man .The patient, from Bachhrawan in Rae Bareli, had abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting for about a month. He visited the hospital on Sep 9. Tests showed chronic gallstone disease and empyema of the gallbladder. The organ was filled with pus.The operation was performed by a team led by Dr Anand Mishra, head of surgery department. Doctors found the gallbladder firmly attached to the liver and large intestine. Its large size and infection made the surgery difficult.Doctors carefully separated the gallbladder from the surrounding tissues and removed it. They also took care to protect the bile duct and blood vessels. The surgery was completed without complications. The patient is recovering and stable.The team included junior residents Dr Vinod Kumar Verma and Dr Sachin Kumar. Dr D K Gupta was part of the anaesthesia team and Dr Sudesh Kumar assisted in the operation theatre.Hospital director Dr G P Gupta congratulated the team. Mishra advised people with persistent abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, indigestion or jaundice to consult a doctor.
