Mandya: Twenty-five students of the Morarji Desai Residential School at Sarangi in KR Pet taluk fell ill on Wednesday night, allegedly after consuming contaminated water.The students developed vomiting and other symptoms and were immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. All of them have since recovered and returned to the residential school. KR Pet MLA HT Manju visited the school on Thursday and enquired about the students’ health. He directed officials to ascertain the cause of the illness, conduct an inquiry, and submit a detailed report.Speaking to TOI, KR Pet BEO Thimmegowda said repair work was under way on the school’s borewell. Although students had been instructed to drink only filtered or boiled water, some of those affected were suspected of having consumed water directly from the borewell.“There was repair work related to the borewell, and students had been clearly instructed to consume only filtered or boiled water. It is suspected that some of the affected students drank borewell water directly, which may have caused the infection,” he said.He added that the residential school has 239 students, of whom 25 reported symptoms. “All the students are out of danger, and we have once again instructed them to consume only boiled or filtered water,” he said.
