Varanasi: Former Supreme Court judge RK Aggarwal inaugurated the SP Gupta Smriti Vidhi Pustakalaya at Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University (VBSPU) on Saturday, underscoring the role of modern libraries in strengthening legal education.Addressing the programme, Justice Aggarwal said libraries are essential for continuous learning and urged students to regularly study and refine their knowledge. “This is not merely a library but a guiding centre for students,” he said, while recalling the dedication of late advocate S. P. Gupta.Presiding over the event, VC Prof Vandana Singh said the library is a valuable addition to the university and assured that all donated materials would be preserved carefully for future generations.Trustee Arunima Paroliya, daughter of late S. P. Gupta, said she dedicated her father’s legacy to the university to support academic growth. “He believed law is not just a profession but a matter of honour,” she said.The library has received a major donation comprising around 6,000 law books along with steel, wooden and glass almirahs. It also includes bound legal notes and a memorial display cabinet preserving Gupta’s personal belongings such as his watch, spectacles, pen, portrait, court dress and PhD degree from Amity Vishwavidyalaya.In addition, the facility has been equipped with 10 computer sets, furniture and other technical resources to support students and researchers.
